First name basis.

My name is Robyn, I’m a 16 year old girl from England.

Ever since I can remember I have alway had a burning passion for travel. From the destination its self, to the journey on the way to the airport. I have always loved the idea of seeing the world for myself, instead of sitting at home and seeing it on tv. Over the years I have been lucky enough to visit some amazing places, from Cornwall to New York- but there is still so much to see.

I have started this blog as a place where I could remember all these wonderful places, have written memories as well as pictures to remind me. Maybe someone may take interest in what I write also, that’s always a bonus.

This is titled “first name basis” as I feel it is only fair I introduce myself, as I am about to share some of my most treasured memories with the internet. This isn’t a very long entry, but it’s my first. To every story there is an introduction, I suppose this is that. Now lets see how the story goes.

  1. Hello Robyn, it seems your crave wanderlust. To travel is to learn yourself, and appreciate others. You are quite the journey ahead, make sure you enjoy the highs and maybe a few lows that you are sure to encounter as you experience the world.

Travel is the best form of discovery. What destinations have you got on your list? What kind of travel would you like to do…are you a city slicker, or prefer the adventure of the wilderness?

Good question, I haven’t really been on any “wilderness” trips but it is definitely something I would like to do. So I’d have to say I’m a city girl. The places I would love to visit are: The Maldives, Bora Bora, Dubai, Austrailia, Tokyo, Los angeles and Barbados. I’d also like to say I have been to every capital city in the world, as I feel that would be an awesome achievement. Are you much of a traveller?

I’ve travelled a little. I’m the opposite though, I don’t care very much for cities at all. I love to be in the outdoors, adventuring in the wilds of nature. My best trips have been with uni, I went to Cyprus to study bird and insect biodiversity and behaviour. Spent two weeks in South Africa, one camping down on the Western Cape and the second up at a couple of game reserves on the Garden route. And I recently got back from a 3 week field course in Indonesia, we were very busy with 3 dives a day, seminars and mini research projects. I’ve also been to the states a few times, staying with friends and going to the beach. By far my biggest and most immersive trip though was the year I spent working in the Bahamas as the assistant marine scientist on a conservation programme, that was an experience I will never forget. I love travelling a lot. You learn so much about yourself and will make friends for life.

Wow that sounds absolutely amazing! I would love to experience even one of the things you have just mentioned. I study both geography and biology in school, so as well as slightly educated in what you do (which I assume is a type of marine biology?) I find it incredibly interesting. I also scuba dive, however I have only dived in England. Would love to explore the world both above ground and underwater.

I just realised who you are, I’d like to say that your piece on Indonesia was really awesome! you sound like you have a pretty cool life

      1. sammreynolds says:

Aw thanks, that’s sweet of you to say. Yes, life is pretty cool, it has its ups and downs. Trying to figure out the next step at the moment.
